SOFWAVE

If you are looking for non-invasive and no downtime skin tightening on the face and neck or a brow lift, Sofwave could be the perfect treatment option. Sofwave uses synchronous parallel beam ultrasound technology, the latest technology on the market. It’s FDA-cleared for lifting the eyebrows, neck and face and improving fine lines and wrinkles. We have seen remarkable results from Sofwave with up to a 5mm lift on the brows

What’s great about this treatment is that it only requires one session, so it’s brilliant if you don’t have time to have multiple treatments, which some other skin-tightening devices do. You’ll also have no downtime following treatment, so you can continue your day as usual and easily fit this treatment into your lifestyle. If you’re needle-phobic, you’ll also be pleased to hear that Sofwave contains no needles.

All skin tightening devices such as ablative lasers, HIFU, Radiofrequency, Radiofrequency with Microneedling (e.g. Morpheus 8) and Sofwave work by heating the skin to a specific temperature. This leads to the contraction of collagen fibres and a shrink wrap effect. Over time, the controlled heat leads to regeneration of collagen and elastin, which gives you tighter and lifted skin. This process has to be in a controlled manner, so there are no burns on the surface of the skin.

About

About SOFWAVE

Sofwave is a multi-award-winning device that first took the US by storm. The device uniquely uses high intensity ultrasound beams that converge into precise treatment zones parallel to the skin. This is unlike older ultrasound based technology of HIFU and MFU where the beams go straight perpendicular to the skin which can end up being in the fat, nerve and bone layer. This can be harmful and cause fat loss in the cheeks and eye area which is not desirable for most people especially those that are slim. The ideal depth for skin tightening machines is up to 1.5 mm, which is the average thickness of the skin. Beyond this is the fat layer.

Sofwave is extremely safe with a unique integrated cooling mechanism, Sofcool, which protects the skin from burning. This means the risk of pigmentation is extremely low and exceptionally rare. This makes the treatment safe and suitable for all skin types and tones.

You should consider Sofwave if you have skin laxity, especially around the eye area, jowls or under the chin and want no downtime. This treatment will not work if you have excess skin from weight loss or significant laxity. From experience, we find skin tightening works best for patients under 60. Over 60, you generally have excess skin and surgical options may be more suited. We also find the results are not as satisfactory if you have a high BMI and this is the case for most skin tightening machines.

Collagen production starts depleting from your mid-twenties but we tend to recommend Sofwave from 30 onwards as you will see more of a difference. You’ll see some immediate results after treatment, but full results are seen up to 6 months post-treatment.

FAQs

Please see our most commonly asked questions below

What kind of results can be achieved?
Sofwave helps provide lift to the skin and improves tightness and firmness. If you’re deciding between Morpheus 8 and Sofwave, Sofwave will give slightly more of a lift than Morpheus 8 because it improves not just the collagen fibres but also the elastin, which is what you need for lifting.

Sofwave is particularly popular for a brow lift. We have seen results of up to a 5mm brow lift in the clinic. Full results are seen after 6 months. The amount of tightening and rejuvenation you get is based on your skin quality and age. After menopause, collagen rejuvenation is slower, but if you have decent skin, you will still get a good result.
Who is this treatment suitable and not suitable for?
Sofwave is suitable for all skin types and tones. You should consider this treatment if you have skin laxity, especially around the eye area, jowls or under the chin and want no downtime.

Sofwave will not work if you have excess skin from weight loss or significant skin laxity. From experience, we find skin tightening works best for patients under 60. Over 60, you generally have excess skin and surgical options may be more suited. If you have a high BMI then it is best to lose weight first and then do any skin tightening procedures.

If you aren’t sure, we recommend you book a consultation with our team, and we will be able to assess your skin in person and suggest the best treatment option for you. Sofwave is not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
How long does it last?
The results of Sofwave can last for several years. We can only give an approximate timeline due to the unique variables of each individual. We recommend a top-up session once a year to maintain results.
What is the recovery/downtime?
A huge benefit of Sofwave is that this treatment has no downtime. You can wear make up and go back to your lifestyle immediately after treatment.
What are the side effects and risks?
Side effects are extremely rare, and this is one of the main reasons we chose this machine. There is an extremely small risk of surface redness and prolonged healing. We don’t treat areas of broken skin. If you have significant pigmentation or melasma, we would treat this first.
How painful is the treatment?
We will apply numbing cream prior to the treatment. We will always aim to make you feel as comfortable as possible. The pain from Sofwave is a heat type of pain. This treatment is not suitable for people with a very low pain threshold. The pain is different from Morpheus 8, which is a needle-type of sharp pain that is more continuous. Sofwave shots are only 5 seconds long, 2 seconds of heat, which is followed by cooling. We also give prescription painkiller tablets to most patients. It has been well tolerated in our clinic.
How will I look straight after
Completely normal, this treatment has no downtime.
How is it done?
Sofwave uses parallel beam ultrasound technology, which generates 7 energy-intensive concentrated ultrasound beams into the mid-dermis of the skin. The skin is heated to 60-70 degrees, which will cause collagen fibrils to contract and give that instant tightening effect. For the next 6 months, your skin continues to rebuild collagen and improve the skin. Sofwave has an integrated cooling mechanism, sofcool, which protects the skin from burning. This means the risk of pigmentation is extremely low and exceptionally rare. The device will be slowly moved across the area treated, providing 5-second long shots of heat; two seconds of the shot is heat, followed by three seconds of cooling.
Duration
You only need one session of Sofwave for full results. The appointment length for a brow lift 75 minutes, and 90 minutes for the face and neck. A large part of this appointment time is for numbing cream and the consultation.
