LUMECCA

If you suffer from redness (rosacea), sun damage, freckles, age spots or vascular lesions (spider veins), then Lumecca is the perfect treatment for you.

Lumecca is an extremely powerful IPL (Intense pulsed light) used to treat pigmentation and vascular lesions. It is used to transform the appearance and complexion of the skin. Lumecca uses photo-thermolysis, which means that specific light wavelengths target red and brown pigments in the skin. These red and brown pigments absorb the light, which then destroys them. Some people refer to lasers such as this as photofacials. They give longer-lasting results than traditional facials. We often combine Lumecca with other treatments, such as PRX or HydraFacial at the No Filter Clinic.

Lumecca treats age spots, vascular lesions (such as spider veins), rosacea, freckles and sun damage. Lumecca can be used all over the body, but the treatment is most commonly used on the face, neck and hands.

Similar to what you may be used to with laser hair removal, you will initially need Lumecca between 4-6 times for your initial course of treatment. You will then need a top-up session every 6-12 months. Results will be maintained, assuming you look after your skin and use appropriate sun protection.

You’ll see an improvement after the very first session, and the best results are seen after 4-6 sessions.

Although IPL is not technically a laser as it uses multiple wavelengths (lasers use specific wavelengths), it is a power horse as it treats multiple skin concerns in one session.

Please note we only use Lumecca for Fitzpatrick skin types 1-3 and some type 4. Darker skin types need different lasers which you can discuss with your therapist.

YOU MUST BOOK IN FOR A CONSULTATION AND PATCH TEST BEFORE BOOKING THIS TREATMENT.

About

About LUMECCA

Lumecca uses photo-thermolysis, which means that specific light wavelengths target red and brown pigments in the skin. These red and brown pigments absorb the light, which then destroys them.

Before the treatment begins, a gel will be applied to the treated area, and the eyes will be covered with goggles for protection. Your therapist will then gently guide the device over the treated area as it emits light pulses. The treatment itself is relatively quick.

During the treatment, the Lumecca device will release bright flashes of light, and the sensation on the skin will feel like a light snap of an elastic band. In the 24-48 hours following the treatment, you may see a darkening of pigmented spots; in the weeks following the treatment, the pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone. After treating vascular lesions, you may see the vein blanch and disappear or a colour change in the vessel, which dissipates after a few days.

FAQs

Please see our most commonly asked questions below

What kind of results can be achieved?
Lumecca can be used anywhere on the body. Results can be extremely transformative (see images below). Lumecca helps treat redness (rosacea), sun damage, freckles, vascular lesions, age spots and pigmentation. The most popular areas to be treated are the face, neck and hands.
Who is this treatment suitable and not suitable for?
Please note that Lumecca is only suitable for Fitzpatrick skin 1-3, so sadly, this treatment is not suitable for dark Mediterranean and Asian skin or darker. Lumecca is suitable for all skin concerns, such as sensitive or acne-prone skin. We will carry out a patch test before you have this treatment too. This treatment is not suitable if you’re pregnant.
How long does it last?
Following your initial treatment, you will then need 1 maintenance session every 6-12 months to maintain the results. Results will continue to last, assuming your look after your skin and use appropriate sun protection. Lumecca won’t prevent further damage (such as if you burn your face in the sun and develop more sun spots), but it will help fix existing concerns.
What is the recovery/downtime?
There is very minimal downtime for this treatment. Patients may experience mild redness and warmth to the skin that will subside after a few hours post-treatment. If vascular lesions have been treated, there may be some mild swelling and occasionally bruising in the areas that were treated. Brown pigmentation may also get darker following treatment before falling off or being absorbed and removed by the body. Patients will experience some sensitivity to sunlight following treatment. It is advised to avoid direct sunlight and tanning for a few weeks prior and post-treatment.
What are the side effects and risks?
This is an extremely safe treatment that has been FDA-approved.
How painful is the treatment?
The treatment shouldn’t feel too painful, and a numbing cream will be applied before treatment if you’re feeling anxious about the pain. The sensation of the treatment will feel like a light snap of an elastic band on the skin.
Duration
Your time-slot with your advance therapist will be 45 minutes long. The treatment itself is relatively quick.
No. of sessions
Between 4-6 sessions. Everyone will be analysed on a case-by-case basis.
How will I look straight after?
Patients may experience mild redness and warmth to the skin that will subside after a few hours post-treatment.
How is it done?
We initially undertake a thorough assessment of your whole face to see if it is suitable for you and explain the extent of the result you are likely to achieve. We then disinfect the area and mark out the areas for treatment. We use different types and densities of filler depending on the areas being treated. We use either a needle or cannula to inject the filler depending on which achieves the best and safest result. When injected with the needle it has to sit on the bone. A cannula is a blunt tip instrument that looks like a needle but is not; it causes less bruising and swelling. It is inserted through a hole created by a needle. Often we use a combination of both. At No Filter Clinic we believe in building up results slowly as the difference of a few millimetres can change the final look. So there may be numerous needle entry points but the discomfort is very manageable as the filler has local anaesthetic within it which numbs the area.
What is the aftercare?
We send a thorough aftercare email to all our patients . Patients must avoid sun exposure and tanning for 3-4 weeks before their treatment. Patients will then need to also avoid sun exposure and tanning for 4-6 weeks post-treatment. Your advance therapist will guide you accordingly.
